Cusumano Syrah 2008
One of the best emerging regions to look for inexpensive wines is Sicily. Currently at the LCBO is a tasty red that punches well above its weight: Cusumano Syrah 2008. It's deep ruby-purple in colour with a nose of black fruits and leather. It offers a fruity, full-bodied flavour of black cherries and blackcurrants. The tannins are ripe and supple making it very easy drinking. And the best part – it costs $9.95 a bottle. Match it with charcuterie or a pizza. That's Cusumano Syrah 2008 from Sicily. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($9.95, LCBO #145490)

Bestheim Brut Cremant d'Alsace
If you're still in celebration mode but can't extend yourself to buy champagne, try a sparkling wine from Alsace. Bestheim Brut Cremant d'Alsace is a blend of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Auxerrois and Pinot Noir. The wine is pale straw in colour with a nose of white peach with a floral grace note. It's dry, medium-bodied with the taste of apple and apricot supported by a fine spine of acidity which gives it good length in the mouth. It costs $18.95 at Vintages outlets. That's Bestheim Brut Cremant d'Alsace at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler ($18.85, Vintages # 141184)
