A Wine Lover's Diary, part 275 (January 25, 2010)
Wednesday, January 20: Have come home to over 300 emails. For some reason my YFI was not working in Chile. So today is taken up with reading through and responding where necessary. Confirmed that Crush Wine Bar will be the venue for the upcoming Ontario Wine Awards judging in April, as it has been in the past. The restaurant has been sold to the Queens Landing group. Wrote up my Wines of the Week from Vintages' Saturday January 23 release. For dinner, Agnusdei Albarino 2008 with a roast chicken.
Thursday January 21: Still struggling through emails. It's difficult to concentrate after 11 days away. Met with Paul Lokash at the Homeway to finalise wines and set-up for a tasting of kosher wines at a synagogue. Then a meeting at Starbucks with Jeff Lyons to discuss a Grapes for Humanity donation to the Canadian Army for soldiers injured by mines and roadside bombs in Afghanistan. Tried a bottle of Fuzion Malbec Organic Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, impressive for its price ($12.95) and a much better wine that their Shiraz Malbec, which has got all the attention. But then, it would do when priced at $7.45 a bottle.
Friday January 22: A meeting with Ivan Landers, who made the pilot for a TV wine show with Sora Olah and me which never went anywhere, to discuss a new TV concept – this time with food and wine. Worked on getting confirmation from judges for the Ontario Wine Awards and for consolidation points for the various regions for shipping their entries to the competition.
