More Wines of the Week

  • Jamieson's Run Cabernet Shiraz Merlot 1997
  • Cave Spring CSV Riesling 2000

Dr. Zenzen Riesling Spätlese Sonnenhofberger 1995 (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)
$13.80
If you can find any bottles of this Vintages wine (released November 16), snap them up. It's already developed that mature Riesling character of petrol, minerals and honeyed apricot but with racy acidity that still gives it youth. Great price for an aged Riesling Spätlese. And it's low in alcohol.
Food match: drink as an aperitif or with pork tenderloin.

Jamieson's Run Cabernet Shiraz Merlot 1997 (Australia)
$15.85
A big, black wine that fills the mouth with black cherry-blackberry flavours tempered with oak that imparts a sweet vanilla character. Soft tannins and table ready.
Food match: pepper steak, lamb shanks.

Cave Spring CSV Riesling 2000 (Ontario)
$25.00 at winery 905-562-3581
Cave Spring has been doing a great job with Riesling and the CSV in 1999 was one of the best Rieslings I have tried in North America. But the 2000 is no slouch either. Pale straw with a greenish tint, it shows smoke and struck flint on the nose. The flavour is white peach and apricot with a honeyed note that gives way to a racy acidic finish.
Food match: Trout in almonds, seafood salad.
