Arniston Bay Chenin Blanc Chardonnay 2009
It's not often I come across a wine that sells for under $9 at the LCBO – at least not one that I can recommend. But I was pleasantly surprised by a South African blended white recently called Arniston Bay Chenin Blanc Chardonnay 2009. The wine is light straw colour with green highlights; it offers a fresh bouquet of quince and green pineapple. It's full on the palate and very flavourful for the price finishing crisply dry. And you'll get 5 cents change from $9. Try it with; shrimp salad or a runny Brie. That's Arniston Bay Chenin Blanc Chardonnay 2009 from South Africa. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($8.95, LCBO #129650)

Luis Cañas Fermentado en Barrica Blanco 2008
Released last month at Vintages is a fascinating white wine from Spain. It's Luis Cañas Fermentado en Barrica Blanco 2008. Grown in the Rioja region, it's 90% Viura and 10% Malvasia from 60 year old vines. As the name suggests, its fermented in new French oak and then aged for 4 months in the barrel. The pale golden wine has an intriguing nose of papayas, nectarines and white flowers. It's light on the palate, very fresh and spicy with a long pineapple and lemony finish. It costs $14.95 at Vintages outlets. Perfect with seafood. That's Luis Cañas Fermentado en Barrica Blanco 2008 from Spain. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.95, Vintages #146217)
