680News wine reviews – March 19–21, 2010

Henri Bourgeois Petit Bourgeois Sauvignon Blanc 2008
I've always been a fan of Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley and even more so when I got a taste of the Henri Bourgeois Petit Bourgeois Sauvignon Blanc 2008. As of March 20, it's available in Vintages. It's pale straw in colour with a lime tint and has an intense nose of grapefruit and cut grass. It's crisply dry and a perfect example of Loire Sauvignon with its mouth-watering acidity. At $14.95 it's a terrific bargain, don't miss it. Match it with goat's cheese or grilled sardines. That's Henri Bourgeois Petit Bourgeois Sauvignon Blanc 2008. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.95, Vintages #672345)

D'Arenberg The Stump Jump Shiraz 2008
One of my favourite Australian wineries is D'Arenberg, who manage to produce wines of great quality at all price levels. Especially for the budget-conscious. At Vintages as of March 20 is D'Arenberg The Stump Jump Shiraz 2008, one of those full-bodied Aussie wines that gives you more flavour that a pot of raspberry jam. But that sweet fruit is balanced with fresh acidity and the wine has good structure fleshed out by a light note of oak. And you can't beat the price – $14.95. This wine cries out for steak. That's D'Arenberg The Stump Jump Shiraz 2008 from McLaren Vale in South Australia at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($14.95, Vintages #158238)
