Wynns Coonawarra Riesling 2008
The Coonawarra region in South Australia is renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon but you can find some nifty Rieslings there too. Wynns Coonawarra Riesling 2008, currently at Vintages, is pale straw in colour with a greenish tint. The nose offers minerally, honey and lime aromas with a floral grace note. The wine is off-dry with great tension between sweet and sour flavours. A lovely sipping wine at $16.95 a bottle or a great match for Thai food or other highly spiced dishes. That's Wynns Coonawarra Riesling 2008 from Australia, available at Vintages outlets. For Post City magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($16.95, Vintages #528216)

Rafale Syrah 2008
The French province of Roussillon in the Pays d'Oc borders on Spain and you can find some real bargains in red wine here. New to the LCBO is Rafale Syrah 2008 produced by the local co-operative, Vignerons Catalans en Roussillon. For $8.90 you get a very flavourful wine with an earthy, spicy, black cherry nose. The fruit is sweet and firmly structured. Good value for the price. Just the thing for the start of the BBQ season. That's Rafale Syrah 2008 from the Pays d'Oc. Try it with hamburgers or pizza. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. ($8.90, LCBO #157891)
