680News wine reviews – April 23–25, 2010

Serego Alighieri Possessioni Rosso 2007
Serego Aligheri is a beautiful estate in Veneto where the poet Dante lived in exile. The wine made on this property today by his descendant is called Serego Alighieri Possessioni Rosso and the 2007 is the best vintage of this wine I've tasted. Dense purple-black colour with a bouquet of cedar, black cherry and blackcurrant, it's full on the palate with ripe fruit flavours of plum and black cherry. Great value at $14.95. Match it with roast beef or fresh parmesan. That's Serego Alighieri Possessioni Rosso 2007 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com ($14.95, LCBO #447326)

Henri Bourgeois Petit Bourgeois Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire has taken a back seat to New Zealand. But this offering from Henri Bourgeois could breathe some life back into the category – especially when you consider the price. Henri Bourgeois Petit Bourgeois Sauvignon Blanc 2008 is pale straw with a lime tint. It has an intense nose of grapefruit and cut grass. On the palate it's medium-bodied with mouth-watering acidity and it costs $14.95 at Vintages. Try it with seafood or grilled white fish. That's Henri Bourgeois Petit Bourgeois Sauvignon Blanc 2008 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, Vintages #672345)
