680News wine reviews – April 30–May 2, 2010

Surani Pietrariccia Fiano 2008
We don't see many white wines from the Italian province of Puglia at the LCBO – but this one is a winner. The grape variety is the little-known Fiano, more commonly grown in neighbouring Campania. The wine is Surani Pietrariccia Fiano 2008. It's yellow straw colour with an intense bouquet of ripe peach and tropical fruits; it's full-bodied, beautifully balanced and full on the palate with lively pineapple acidity. It costs $16.95 at Vintages outlets. A wine for lobster or pork loin. That's Surani Pietrariccia Fiano 2008 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($16.95, Vintages #159582)

Just Cabernet Sauvignon
Sometimes you just want a simple red wine that costs under $10 and is delicious. Well, here's one from the Languedoc in southern France that's called Just Cabernet Sauvignon. It costs $9.95 a bottle. It's deep ruby in colour with a cedar and blackberry nose topped by a vanilla oak note. On the palate, it's sweet and juicy; a New World style wine with soft tannins. Ideal for simple BBQ fare. That's Just Cabernet Sauvignon from France. If you miss any of these wine reviews you can see them on the web by visiting 680News.com and clicking on my link. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($9.95, LCBO #161216)
