680News wine reviews – May 7–9, 2010

Jadot Mâcon Villages 2007
A good introduction to the joys of white Burgundy is Jadot Mâcon Villages 2007, and this was a great vintage for white wines in Burgundy. At $14.95 a bottle, this is really bargain-priced for wines from Burgundy. The wine is straw coloured; the bouquet is apples, spicy oak and forest floor notes; it's medium-bodied, dry, with apple and pineapple flavours carried on lively acidity. You can pair it with grilled fish or Caesar salad or drink it as an aperitif. That's Jadot Mâcon Villages 2007 from Burgundy's Mâconnais region. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, LCBO #164145)

J.P. Vinhos Tinto da Anfora 2007
Portugal continues to make some gutsy red wines at affordale prices. Case in point is J.P. Vinhos Tinto da Anfora 2007, a blend of local grapes with Cabernet Sauvignon. This deeply coloured wine has an earthy, plum nose with spicy red berry flavours and good acidity. The price is $12.95 a bottle. Here's your ideal BBQ wine with enough oomph to accompany marinated ribs or pepper steak kebabs. That's J.P. Vinhos Tinto da Anfora 2007 from the Alentej region in Portugal. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($12.95 LCBO #227256)
