Jindalee Estate Shiraz 2001 (Australia)
An easy-going, lean Shiraz at a pocket-friendly price. Plum coloured,
with a spicy blackberry nose showing some oak (probably chips at this
price rather than barrel aged). Firm structure with a lively spine of
acidity and a smoky berry flavour. Medium bodied.
Food matches: tomato-based pasta dishes with a kick, cassoulet
Penfold's Rawson's Retreat Chardonnay 2001 (Australia)
A good value Aussie Chardonnay. Golden straw colour with a nose of butter
and pineapple; spicy and full-bodied with voluptuous green pineapple flavours
with a touch of bitterness on the finish.
Food match: grilled chicken, veal chop.
Errazuriz Don Maximiano Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 (Chile)
Dense purple colour; concentrated blackcurrant nose with a eucalyptus
note. Full-bodied and fruit forward with a richly extracted blackcurrant
flavour and soft tannins.
Food match: lamb shanks, BBQ-ed ribs.
