Thirty Bench Riesling 2008 (Ontario)
$18.70 (Vintages #24133)
Consistently one of the best producers of Riesling in Ontario. Pale straw in colour with a lime note; on the nose, minerally, grapefruit notes; light-bodied with tart lime and white honey flavours and a crisply dry, crab apple finish. A gold medal winner at the Ontario Wine Awards 2009. **** (89)
Food match: grilled scallops; aperitif wine

Fazi Battaglia Verdicchio 2008 (Marche, Italy)
$10.95 (LCBO #24422)
An old favourite in that distinctive Wagnerian-soprano-shaped bottle. Very pale lime colour with a minerally nose of citrus and peach, flavours that are replicated on the palate. A light spritz gives the wine freshness. A good summer patio wine with a dry finish. ***½ (86)
Food match: Greek salad; shrimps

Long Flat Shiraz 2008 (New South Wales, Australia)
$11.95 (LCBO #536763)
Ruby purple colour with a smoky, blackberry nose and a charred note; medium-bodied, sweet, jammy fruit with a minty, peppery note. Easy drinking. ***½ (86)
Food match: BBQ kebabs; hamburgers
