Gassier Sables d'Azur 2009
Summer is rosé time; nothing looks better in the glass outdoors than a chilled pink wine. Most rosés have a touch of residual sugar, but if your palate demands dry wines, look for rosés from Provence. Gassier Sables d'Azur 2009 has a colour the trade calls "eye of the partridge" – a kind of pinkish orangey-grey. It opens with a bouquet of wild strawberries and on the palate the flavours are strawberry and cranberry. Be sure to chill it well and serve it as an aperitif or with plate of charcuterie. The cost, $14.95. That's Gassier Sables d'Azur Rosé 2009 from Provence. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com.  ($14.95, LCBO #33621)

Pierre André Bourgogne Pinot Noir Reserve 2008
A good introduction to the pleasures of red Burgundy is Pierre André Bourgogne Pinot Noir Reserve 2008. A very versatile food wine, this product has a light ruby colour, a nose of cherry pits and dried violets and a flavour of raspberries. It's firmly structured with lively acidity. A good buy for $15.95. Match it with chicken or ham. That's Pierre André Bourgogne Pinot Noir Reserve 2008 from Burgundy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($15.95, LCBO #168427)
