680News wine reviews – July 30–August 1, 2010

Louis Jadot Bourgogne Chardonnay 2008
At last, a very affordable white Burgundy that actually tastes more expensive than it is. Louis Jadot Bourgogne Chardonnay 2008 is straw coloured, and offers toasty oak with clove and apple nuances on the nose; it's medium-bodied, well balanced, dry with great length. At Vintages outlets it costs $18.95 a bottle, a good price for white Burgundy. Try it with a salmon steak or roast chicken. That's Louis Jadot Bourgogne Chardonnay 2008 from Burgundy. If you miss any of these reviews you can read them by going to 680News.com and clicking on my link. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. (Vintages #933077, $18.95)

Fontanafredda Briccotondo Barbera D'Alba 2008
After Sangiovese and Montepulciano, Barbera is the most widely planted grape in Italy. One of the best examples of this variety I've found at the LCBO is Fontanafredda Briccotondo Barbera D'Alba 2008 from the Piemonte region. The wine is dense purple in colour with a sweet black cherry flavour; great extraction and racy acidity, making it a very versatile food wine. It's great with truffled pasta or veal. It costs $15.95 a bottle. That's Fontanafredda Briccotondo Barbera D'Alba 2008. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. (Vintages Essentials #72348, $15.95)
