680News wine reviews – August 27–29, 2010

Richard Hamilton Gumprs Shiraz 2008 At the Vintages pre-release
tasting for the wine press, I tasted an Australian Shiraz that really impressed me by its quality for the price. Richard Hamilton Gumprs Shiraz 2008 is dense purple-black in colour with a bouquet of blackberries, vanilla oak and chocolate. It's full-bodied, fruit-driven with blackberry and mocha flavours. Well worth its price of $18.95. It's got enough heft to match the spiciest ribs or pepper steak. That's Richard Hamilton Gumprs Shiraz 2008 from Mclaren Vale in South Australia at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($18.95, Vintages #600122)

Chakana Yaguareté Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Argentina rivals Chile as the place to shop for inexpensive, well-made wines. Currently at Vintages is a Sauvignon Blanc 2009 from a winery in Mendoza called Chakana. Chakana Yaguareté Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2009 is pale straw in colour with a nose of green plums and nettles. Medium-bodied, it offers crisp flavours of green apple and gooseberry. Very well priced at $12.95 a bottle. Match it with grilled calamari or a vegetable salad. That's Chakana Yaguareté Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2009 from Argentina. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($12.95, Vintages #178111)
