Carl Reh Riesling Kabinett 2008
There was a time when German wine labels were completely incomprehensible to anyone not familiar with the language. But now some of them couldn't be easier to read. Carl Reh Riesling Kabinett 2008 is a case in point. This wine from the Mosel is made in off-dry style with flavours of lime and honey. At 8.5 per cent alcohol it's light on the palate and easy drinking – a good wine to prolong summer. It costs $12.95 a bottle and comes with a screwcap. Try it as an aperitif or with Thai or Chinese For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. food. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. Birchwood Fresh Cabernet Gamay 2008
Ontario winemakers are doing a lot more blending of different grapes these days and one of the more off-beat mixes is Birchwood's blend of Gamay – the grape of Beaujolais – with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc – the grapes of red Bordeaux. I was a little hesitant before I actually tasted it but it works quite nicely, giving the wine the easy-drinking quality of a Beaujolais with the firmer black currant flavours of Cabs. It's a light and fruity wine that you can chill and it won't break the bank at $11.95 a bottle. The wine is called Fresh Cabernet Gamay 2008 on the Ontario shelves of the LCBO.
