 WINES OF THE WEEK

More Wines of the Week

  • Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2008
  • Loosen Bros. Dr. L Riesling 2009
  • Little Yering Pinot Noir 2008

Three wines that will be released in Vintages this Saturday, October 2nd:

Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2008 (Rioja)
$15.95 (Vintages #674564)
Alvaro Palacios is one of the most exciting young winemakers in Spain. Working in both Rioja and Priorat he's producing some of that country's best wines. This rich Tempranillo wine has a nose of blackberries, blackcurrants and pencil lead with a floral note. ****½ (89)
Food match: lamb or veal

Loosen Bros. Dr. L Riesling 2009 (Mosel)
$13.95 (Vintages #0599274)
A good Riesling from the Mosel region should be light with minerally, with flavours of lime, honey and white flowers. And that's what you get in spades with Loosen Bros. Dr. L Riesling 2009. The wine is very pale in colour with a clean honeyed grapefruit flavour that dances on the palate. There's a sweetness to it that's balanced with racy acidity. **** (88)
Food match: aperitif; Thai dishes

Little Yering Pinot Noir 2008 (Yarrah Valley, Australia)
$14.95 (Vintages #188094)
Tawny ruby in colour with a high toned nose of cranberries and raspberries; the fruit is sweet balanced by lively tangerine acidity. It's a medium-bodied, versatile food wine. **** (88)
Food match: grilled salmon; roast duck
