680News wine reviews – October 1–3, 2010

Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2008
Alvaro Palacios is one of the most exciting young winemakers in Spain. Working in both Rioja and Priorat, he's producing some of that country's best wines. This weekend, Vintages releases his Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2008, a rich Tempranillo wine with a nose of blackberries, blackcurrants and pencil lead with a floral note. Great value at $15.95. Match it with lamb or veal. That's Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2008 from Rioja at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($15.95, Vintages #674564)

Loosen Bros. Dr. L  Riesling 2009
A good Riesling from the Mosel region should be light with minerally, with flavours of lime, honey and white flowers. And that's what you get in spades with Loosen Bros. Dr. L Riesling 2009, released this weekend in Vintages. The wine is very pale in colour with a clean honeyed grapefruit flavour that dances on the palate. There's a sweetness to the wine that's balanced with racy acidity. Drink it as an aperitif or with spicy food like Thai dishes. It costs $13.95 at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($13.95, Vintages #0599274)
