Laurent Miguel Unoaked Chardonnay 2009 (Languedoc)
$11.00 (LCBO #157909)
A bargain Chardonnay with enough spiciness to suggest that it's spent time in oak – but it hasn't. Pale straw in colour with spicy, clove, apple and melon nose, flavours that evolve on the palate with a touch of sweetness. **** (87)
Food match: roast chicken; Brie

Santa Carolina Reserva Carmenère 2008 (Rapel Valley, Chile)
$12.00 (LCBO #57133)
Dense ruby in colour with a cedary-blackberry nose lifted by vanilla oak. Fruit-driven, black raspberry and sweet tobacco flavours; soft on the palate but finishes with good structure. **** (87)
Food match: veal chop; pork ribs

Peter Lehmann Layers White 2009 (South Australia)
$17.95 (Vintages #167171)
A terrific white blend of Semillon, Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris from a winery that has quality throughout its portfolio. Medium straw-lime colour; oily, grapey, aromatic nose; full-bodied. Dry with orange and honeysuckle flavours. Full in the mouth with good length. ****½ (89)
Food match: grilled lobster; goat's cheese
