More Wines of the Week

  • Château des Charmes Chardonnay Musqué 2008
  • Tabali Reserva Especial Chardonnay 2008
  • Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru 1999

Three best buys from Vintages Saturday November 13th release:

Château des Charmes Chardonnay Musqué 2008 (Niagara-on-the-Lake)
$16.95 (Vintages #640516)
The best vintage of this variety the winery has made (a grape pioneered in Ontario by Paul Bosc). Medium straw colour; aromatic, apple nose; elegant, dry apple and citrus flavour with an intriguing note of cardamom. ****½ (89)
Food match: garlic chicken; aperitif

Tabali Reserva Especial Chardonnay 2008 (Limari Valley, Chile)
A great bargain here. Medium straw colour with a spicy, tropical fruit nose with a barnyard note. Full-bodied, sweet tropical fruit flavour with driving acidity and a nutty finish. ***** (90)
Food match: pork loin; steamed lobster

Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru 1999 (Burgundy)
$26.25 (Vintages #641308)
A well priced, mature red Burgundy. Tawny ruby in colour with a nose of raspberries, violets and minerals; dry, elegant, firmly structured, beginning to dry out but very flavourful. Drink now ****½ (89)
Food match: duck breast; grilled salmon
