Monte Antico Sangiovese Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
Here's a solid red wine to start the New year. Monte Antico Sangiovese Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 is a very contemporary blend from Chianti country. Deep ruby colour, it has a nose of cherries, smoke, tar and cinnamon; it's medium to full-bodied with dry cherry and plum flavours and a note of new leather. It costs $15 a bottle at Vintages outlets. Match it with mushroom risotto or roast lamb. That's Monte Antico Sangiovese Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 from Tuscany. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com  ($15.00, Vintages #69377)

Graffigna Centenario Pinot Grigio Reserve 2010
If you still have turkey hanging around the fridge, here's a white wine that will make you want to polish it off once and for all. Graffigna Centenario Pinot Grigio Reserve 2010 comes from Argentina and costs $12.95 a bottle. I'm usually not a great fan of Pinot Grigio; there are too many insipid examples on the market, but this one has real flavour. Peachy on the nose, it has a mouth-filling taste of pear and peach with lively acidity. No turkey left? Then serve it with pan-fried trout or grilled scallops. That's Graffigna Centenario Pinot Grigio Reserve 2010 from Argentina. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com ($12.95. LCBO #164756)
