Hidden Bench Chardonnay Estate 2007
One of the best Ontario Chardonnays I've come across in a long time is Hidden Bench Chardonnay Estate 2007. It's straw coloured with a nose of apple, pear, minerals and a smoky note; it's medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced with well extracted savoury fruit, creamy oak and mineral flavours and a long finish. It costs $35.20 but great Chardonnay never comes cheap. If you can't find it at Vintages outlets, track it down through the winery. Serve it with grilled salmon or steamed lobster. That's Hidden Bench Chardonnay Estate 2007 from Ontario. ($35.20, Vintages #68817)

Domaine Gavélan Paroles de Femme 2007
I'm a great fan of the red wines from the Côtes Du Rhône in southern France. By and large they're great value and offer lots of flavour. Domaine Gavélan Paroles de Femme 2007 is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. You can find it at Vintages outlets for $15. Ruby-purple in colour, it offers a nose of black raspberries, cassis and violets; it's medium to full-bodied, well structured and elegant with a long finish. And it's got a velvety mouth feel. Match it with grilled steak. That's Domaine Gavélan Paroles de Femme 2007 from France at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($15.00, Vintages #125930)
