680News wine reviews – January 21–23, 2011

Pfeffingen Gewürztraminer Spätlese 2008
Gewürztraminer is one of those difficult wine words to pronounce. Gewürz is German for spice. And Traminer means from the town of Tramin where Gewürztaminer was first propagated. A delicious example of this wine is currently at Vintages. Pfeffingen Gewürztraminer Spätlese 2008 is neon yellow in colour; the nose is concentrated lychee and rose petals; it's dry, full-bodied with an intense cardamom and orange flavour with a smoky note. Very exotic with great length. It costs $19.95. Serve if as an aperitif or with Thai cuisine. That's Pfeffingen Gewürztraminer Spätlese 2008 from Germany at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($19.95, Vintages #211417)

Château Roquetaillade La Grange Blanc 2008
We don't see much white Bordeaux at the LCBO, but this one is not only very tasty but a real bargain too. Château Roquetaillade La Grange Blanc 2008 is a blend of mostly Sémillon with Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc. Pale straw in colour, the wine offers a nose of vanilla oak, peach and cut grass with a mineral note; it's medium-bodied with a lovely mouth-feel and flavours of peach and passion fruit. It costs $14.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with grilled fish or Camembert. That's Château Roquetaillade La Grange Blanc 2008 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($14.95, Vintages #240374)
