Montreal hosts the fourth annual edition of its acclaimed HIGH LIGHTS
Festival from Thursday, February 13, to Sunday, March 2, 2003, featuring
18 evenings of gourmet, sound, and visual pleasures.
The Montreal HIGH LIGHTS Festival offers three different themes that
highlight the very best that Montreal has to offer: the Hydro-Québec
Celebration of Light, the SAQ Dining Experience and the prestigious
cultural program, the Sun Life Financial Performing Arts.
The Hydro-Québec Celebration of Light features free outdoor
events at the festival site, in the heart of downtown Montreal, including
spectacular fire and light shows, busker performances, and many other
exciting events for the entire family.
Twenty-four productions from seven countries make up the Sun Financial
Performing Arts series, which focuses on the dramatic arts. Robert
Wilson, renowned theatre director, and Édouard Lock, choreographer
and founder of the critically acclaimed dance company La La La Human Steps,
are the honorary chairs of the series. On February 13, the series opens
with Amélia, a new creation by Édouard Lock, at Théâtre
Maisonneuve of Place des Arts.
Other highlights in the performing arts series are the music of Les
Misérables performed by The Montreal Symphony Orchestra and
featuring Gino Quilico; Nomade, the 10th anniversary production
by Cirque Éloize; Rigoletto, performed by L'Opéra
de Montréal; and Carmen Tango by Le Grand Choeur de Montréal.
Musical highlights include a performance by the entire Marsalis family
and a performance by Ibrahim Ferrer, a legendary member of the Buena Vista
The performing arts series concludes on March 2 with a star-studded concept
performance centred on the theme of theatre and featuring great moments
of Quebec theatre performed through song and drama.
The SAQ Dining Experience includes 50 of Montreal's finest
tables offering Special Festival Menus as well as 18 evenings of chic
cocktail hours, theme brunches, gastronomic evenings, culinary workshops
and many other exciting events presented by some of the world's renowned

series with a tribute to Catalan author Manuel Vázquez Montalbán
and culinary delights from a number of master chefs from the region.
