Henry of Pelham Off-Dry Reserve Riesling 2008
Ron Giesbrecht, Henry of Pelham's winemaker, has a way with Riesling. Currently at Vintages is an Off-Dry Riesling Reserve 2008 that won a Silver Medal at the 2010 Ottawa Wine Challenge. This light-bodied wine is straw-coloured with a bouquet of peach and grapefruit and that characteristic petrol note that Riesling develops with age. There's a honeyed note in mid palate that's nicely balanced with the citrus fruit, finishing crisply dry. It costs $15.95 at Vintages outlets. Match it with pork dishes or onion tart. That's Henry of Pelham Off-Dry Riesling Reserve 2008 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($15.95, Vintages #557165)

Casa de Illana Tresdecinco 2004
Here's a wine from the Spanish region of Ribera del Jucar that's a really great value for the price. Casa de Illana Tresdecinco 2004 is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It's dense ruby in colour with a mature rim. The nose is smoky blackberry with a medicinal note from the Syrah. Lovely balance of fruit and oak with rich flavours of blackcurrant and blackberry. The cost? $15.95 at Vintages. Perfect for casseroles or steak. That's Casa de Illana Tresdecinco 2004 from Spain. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($15.95, Vintages #190702)
