Fabiano Valpolicella 2009 (Veneto)
$16.95 for 1500 mL (LCBO #117259)
A very drinkable Valpolicella for what works out to $8.50 a bottle. Ruby coloured with a red cherry and earthy note; fresh acidity sustains this medium-bodied, dry wine with rounded tannins. (86)
Food match: tomato-based pasta dishes; pizza

Domaines Schlumberger Les Princes Abbés Riesling 2007 (Alsace)
($18.25, Vintages #981662 – released on Saturday, Feb. 19)
This is a classic Alsace Riesling at a great price. Medium straw colour; lime and floral notes on the nose; medium-bodied, dry, elegant, mature with peach, lime, lemon flavours and great length (90).
Food match: pork loin; onion tart

Nicolas Potel Les Grèves Beaune 2007 (Burgundy)
$29.95 (Vintages #196899 – released on Saturday, Feb. 19)
Fine red Burgundy never comes cheap but this is as near as it gets. Mature ruby colour with a nose of raspberries, rust and minerals; medium-bodied, elegant and fresh with a firm structure, (89+)
Food match: duck breast; rack of lamb
