$17.95 (availability: through winery 905-832-2548 or Lifford Wine Agency
An impressive debut vintage from Southbrook’s new winemaker, Colin
Campbell. Pale straw colour; vanilla, peach and gooseberry notes on the
nose (obvious oak from barrel fermentation) that carry through on the
palate; medium-bodied, plump middle with a lively acidic finish.
Food match: monkfish, asparagus with hollandaise sauce
Southbrook Triomphe Cabernet Merlot 2001 (Ontario)
$27.95 (availability: see above)
Dense and deeply coloured purple robe; smoky, struck-flint, blackberry
and blueberry bouquet with vanilla top notes; medium-bodied, lovely clean
fruit, well balanced with a fine spine of acidity and soft tannic finish.
A well-made wine that needs a year at least in bottle.
Food match: duck breast, pork loin
Domaine Camp Galhan Sauvignon 2000 (Vin de pays d’Oc)
$15.95 (availability: Portfolio Wines & Spirits 416-488-4922 or firstname.lastname@example.org)
An impressive Sauvignon Blanc from the Languedoc. Not your usual grassy-gooseberry
taste with racy, searing acidity, this deeply-coloured wine has an intense
tropical fruit nose – ripe pineapple and green mango flavours with
citrus acidity that prolongs the taste and cleans the palate.
Food match: pan-seared scallops, lobster
