More Wines of the Week

  • Chateau Bonnet Entre-Deux-Mers 2001
  • Strewn Gewurztraminer 2000
  • Henry of Pelham Reserve Baco Noir 2000

Chateau Bonnet Entre-Deux-Mers 2001 (Bordeaux Blanc)
$12.95
This wine is a reliable old standard from the LCBO's general list. Straw coloured with grassy, gooseberry nose; crisply dry with good fruit on the middle palate tasting of green plum and green pepper. Medium-bodied.
Food match: mussels, Caesar salad

Strewn Gewurztraminer 2000 (Ontario)
$14.95 (available only at the winery: 905-468-1229; strewnwines@sympatico.ca)
If you can't get hold of Chateau des Charmes' Gewurz 2000, this is almost as good. Straw colour; good varietal character on the nose – lychee and rose petal; dry, perfumed, light-bodied, intense character with good length.
Food match: Thai food, Munster cheese

Henry of Pelham Reserve Baco Noir 2000 (Ontario)
$21.95 (Vintages and the winery: 905-684-8423)
Winemaker Ron Giesbrecht has made this variety a cult wine for Henry of Pelham. Dense purple colour with a smoky, oaky, blackberry nose; medium-bodied with a sweet blackberry flavour driven by lively acidity.
Food match: cassoulet, hearty tomato-based dishes
