Kendall-Jackson Collage Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2000 (California)
$13.95
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Shiraz. Classy quality for the price here. A full-bodied red with a silky mouth feel. Plum skin colour with a nose of vanilla, cedar, red berries and smoke. Full-bodied, spicy blackberry and cranberry flavours that sustain on the palate with lively acidity.
Food match: barbecued pork loin, pepper steak

Vins de Vienne Crozes-Hermitage Les Palignons 2000 (Northern Rhône)
$43 (Private order six-bottle cases from The Case for Wine, 416-482-0241 or email info@thecaseforwine.com)
Expensive, but this is the best Crozes-Hermitage I have tasted. The colour is dense purple with an intriguing nose redolent of tar, smoke, herbs and black truffle; unexpectedly medium-bodied and very elegant with a flattering blackberry, rose petal and iodine flavour.
Food match: game dishes, old cheddar

Kacaba Vineyards Pinot Gris 2002 (Ontario)
$22 (available only at the winery 905-562-5625 or email staff@kacaba.com)
Straw colour with a pink tint; peachy nose; mouthfilling ripe peachy flavour, well balanced acid and fruit. Very elegant.
Food match: steamed lobster, pork with apple sauce
