Ghost Pines Winemaker's Blend Merlot 2007
Here's a California Merlot that goes by the splendid name of Ghost Pines Winemaker's Blend Merlot 2007. The wine is equal parts Sonoma and Napa Valley grapes. Deep ruby in colour, it has a nose of vanilla oak and blackberries with a spicy note; it's medium to full-bodied with soft, sweet fruit, toasty oak and cocoa notes balanced by good acidity. Just the thing for pot roast or a warming winter stew. You'll find it at Vintages outlets for $19.95 a bottle. That's Ghost Pines Winemaker's Blend Merlot 2007 from California. Château des Charmes Chardonnay Musqué 2008
If you see Chardonnay Musque on a label you're going to get a wine that is quite different from the Chardonnay you might be used to. The Musque part means that it has a Muscat-like note that give the wine an aromatic quality and it's usually unoaked. Château des Charmes Chardonnay Musqué 2008 has a lifted nose of apple blossom with a dry apple flavour and citrus acidity. It's beautifully balanced and lively on the palate. You can find it at Vintages outlets for $16.95 a bottle. Match it with Thai cuisine or drink it as an aperitif. That's Château des Charmes Chardonnay Musqué 2008 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($16.95 (Vintages #640516)
