Elderton Friends Vineyard Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
The Barossa Valley in Australia is better known for its Shiraz than its Cabernet Sauvignon but here's a winner Cab from the Elderton winery – Elderton Friends Vineyard Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2009. You'll find it at Vintages outlets for $17.95. The wine is dense purple-black in colour; the nose is concentrated blackcurrant, spice and cedar. It's medium-bodied, dry and elegant with a fruity mid palate and lively acidity that sustains the flavour. Pair it with rack of lamb. That's Elderton Friends Vineyard Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($17.95, Vintages #595389)

Pisoni Teroldego 2008
If you're looking for something different in a red wine, something other than Cabernet or Pinot Noir or Shiraz, there's a grape frown in the Alto Adige/Trentino called Teroldego – a distant cousin to Syrah. Currently at Vintages is Pisoni Teroldego 2008. It costs $14.95 a bottle. The wine is deep ruby in colour with a floral, spicy nose of raspberries and blueberries. It's medium-bodied, remarkably elegant for the price with a firm, dry, fruity flavour. A wine for tomato-based pasta dishes. That's Pisoni Teroldego 2008 fro northern Italy at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($14.95, Vintages #209353)
