680News wine reviews – April 1–3, 2011

Darting Riesling Kabinett 2008
Nothing promises summer more than a glass of German Riesling. Released on April 2 at Vintages is Darting Dürkheimer Michelsberg Riesling Kabinett 2008. The bouquet of this wine is a lovely mix of honey, apricots with a petrol note. Riesling takes on that petrol smell as it ages. It's off-dry with a slight spritz and a perfect balance of peachy-apricot and honey flavours with citrus acidity. It costs a very reasonable $15.95 at Vintages. A wine to sip and contemplate summer. That's Darting Dürkheimer Michelsberg Riesling Kabinett 2008. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($15.95, Vintages #950212)

Fog Head Highlands Series Reserve Pinot Noir 2008
California Pinot Noir under $20! Now that gets my attention. In the April 2 Vintages release is Fog Head Highlands Series Reserve Pinot Noir 2008 from Monterey. The wine is deep ruby in colour and an earthy black cherry nose with a tarry note. The great thing about this wine is its velvety mouth feel and spicy, toasty finish. It costs $19.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with red meat dishes or ripe Camembert. That's Fog Head Highlands Series Reserve Pinot Noir 2008 from California. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($19.95, Vintages #212944)
