680News wine reviews – April 8–10, 2011

Château la Verrière 2008
If your taste runs to red Bordeaux rather than fruit-driven New World wines, try this well made a bargain-priced claret that's labeled Château la Verrière 2008. Dense purple in colour. On the nose you can smell the vanilla of the oak was well as the fragrance of cherries and plums with a floral grace note. And all for $14.95 at Vintages. It's a wine for lamb. That's Château la Verrière 2008 from Bordeaux. If you want to read this or any other of my wine reviews, go to 680News.com and click on my link. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($14.95, Vintages #199000)

Tommasi Arele Appassimento 2008
Appassimento is a winemaking technique with a long tradition in the Veneto region for making Amarone. Basically the harvested grapes are left to dry for several weeks until they lose water and shrivel. This concentrates the sugars and acids. Currently at Vintages is Tomassi Arele Appassimento 2008, made from Corvina and Oselata grapes. The wine is deep purple in colour with a spicy-herbal nose of plums and raisins. At $17.95 a bottle, it offers full-bodied, fruity flavours of plum and black cherry with soft tannins. A wine for osso buco. That's Tommasi Arele Appassimento 2008 from Italy at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680 News.com. ($17.95, Vintages #224188)
