680News wine reviews – June 17–19, 2011

Wild Rock Cupid's Arrow Pinot Noir 2008
Wild Rock Cupid's Arrow Pinot Noir 2008 from New Zealand's Central Otago region is red Burgundy on steroids. Light purple in colour with a nose of raspberries, tomato leaf and rust, the wine is medium-bodied, elegant and dry with dense flavours of raspberry and dark chocolate. And a long, lingering finish. It costs $21.95 at Vintages outlets. Match it with duck breast or grilled portobello mushrooms. That's Wild Rock Cupid's Arrow Pinot Noir 2008 from New Zealand. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680.com. ($21.95, Vintages #61242)

Magnotta Special Reserve Semillon 2009
Trust me, this wine is really worth searching out. You can only get it from Magnotta's stores around the city. It's Magnotta Special Reserve Semillon 2009 and it won a regional trophy at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London in April. Golden straw in colour with a waxy, honey and peach bouquet, it's medium-bodied on the palate, offering spicy peach and Bartlett pear flavours riding on lively acidity. Great value at $10.95 from Magnotta stores. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680.com. ($10.95, only from Magnotta stores)
