  • Balthasar Ress Riesling Spätlese 1998
  • Duorum Tinto 2008
  • Falernia Reserva Syrah 2007

Three impressive wines from Vintages' June release.

Balthasar Ress Riesling Spätlese 1998 (Rheingau)
$20.95 (to be released on Saturday June 25: Vintages #160762)
A mature Riesling at a great price. Bright gold colour with a nose of ripe lemon, quince, lavender and minerals; medium-bodied and dry with lemon custard, earthy, mineral accents, long finish, drinking well now. ***** (91)
Food match: roast pork; aperitif wine

Duorum Tinto 2008  (Douro, Portugal)
$16.95 (Vintages #215699)
Dense ruby-purple colour with a savoury nose of cassis and minerals; full bodied and precisely structured, harmonious with a soft kiss of oak, no lack of elegance here. A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. ***** (90)
Food match: grilled steak; fresh parmesan

Falernia Reserva Syrah 2007 (Chile)
$15.95 (Vintages #208371)
Dense ruby – purple colour with a nose of boysenberry, exotic spice, floral notes, earth and oak smoke. Full bodied with supple tannins and harmonious overall balance, long finish, impressive, especially considering its price tag. ***** (90)
Food match: pepper steak; roast lamb.
