Mike Weir Estate Winery Riesling 2008
On the Canada Day weekend, why not celebrate with an Ontario wine that bears the name of a Canadian icon: Mike Weir Estate Winery Riesling 2008. This wine won the gold medal at this year's Ontario Wine Awards in the off-dry Riesling category. You'll find it at Vintages outlets for $14.95 a bottle. The wine has flavours of honeyed lime and cantaloupe with refreshing acidity. This wine will make you think twice about Riesling. Try it as an aperitif while you wait for the barbecue to heat up. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, Vintages #229286)

Château des Charmes Equuleus 2007
Spoil yourself this Canada Day weekend by driving down to Niagara and dropping in on Château des Charmes in St. Davids. The spoiling yourself part is by buying a bottle of Château des Charmes Equuleus 2007, a red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It sounds pricey at $40 a bottle but it has the quality and flavour of a French wine at twice the price. If you like red Bordeaux, this is the wine for you. And if you can't visit the winery, the winer can come to you through winerytohome.com. That's Château des Charmes Equuleus 2007. Happy Canada Day, wine lovers. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com.
