680News wine reviews – July 15–17, 2011

Duorum Tinto 2008
Duorum Tinto, as its name implies, is a red wine made in Portugal's Douro Valley. The Douro Valley is, of course, famous for its port, which is wine that has been fortified with grape spirits. But Duorum Tinto is a table wine made from three of the five or six grapes that usually go into port – Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. Savoury blackcurrant and minerally on the nose, it's full-bodied and and rich on the palate with a kiss of oak. Ideal for barbecued meats. It costs $16.95 at Vintages outlets. That's Duorum Tinto 2008 from Portugal. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($16.95, Vintages #215699)

Carla Chiaro Rserve Malbec 2007
Now here's an Argentinean Malbec that offers loads of flavour for the price. Carla Chiaro Reserve Malbec 2007. It's really fruit forward. The dense ruby-purple colour stains the glass – always a good sign if you like full-bodied, mouth-filling reds. The nose is a mix of raspberries, currants, spice and mint. It's juicy and fresh on the palate with an underpinning of vanilla oak. Well priced at $14.95 and available at Vintages outlets. A wine for steak if ever there was one. That's Carla Chiaro Reserve Malbec 2007 from Argentina. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, Vintages #235085)
