680News wine reviews – August 12–14, 2011

Mas de la Devèze La 66 2007
Mas de la Devèze La 66 2007 is a Grenache blend from the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. The smell of the wine reminds me of the herbs that grow wild on the hills in the Midi mingled with aromas of chocolate and blackberries. Its opulent texture fills the mouth with sweet blackberry fruit that lingers on the palate for an unconscionable time. This is a wine for red meat dishes. It sells at Vintages for $19.95. That's Mas de la Devèze La 66 2007 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($19.95, Vintages #65797)

Kurt Darting Gewurztraminer Kabinett 2009
Gewurztraminer is one of those wines you either love or hate. I happen to love it. A great example is currently available at Vintages – Kurt Darting Gewurztraminer Kabinett 2009 from the Pfalz region of Germany. The nose is all lychees, rose petals and grapefruit rind. It's medium-bodied with sweet lychee and grapefruit flavours that sustain well on the palate. It costs $16.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it as an aperitif or match it with Thai dishes or light curries. That's Kurt Darting Gewurztraminer Kabinett 2009 from Germany. ($16.95, Vintages #944181)
