680News wine reviews – September 9–11, 2011

Wolf Blass Shiraz Grenache 2010
Wolf Blass Shiraz Grenache 2010 is the kind of wine that could convert the non-wine-drinker into a sensible person. It comes from South-eastern Australia and is deep ruby in colour; the nose is all mint and blackberries; it's medium-bodied, soft and fruity on the palate with a touch of sweetness and an engaging lavender note in the back taste. Very easy drinking. It costs $15 a bottle. Serve it with BBQ ribs or lamb chops. That's Wolf Blass Shiraz Grenache 2010 from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($15.00, LCBO #494336)

Cono Sur Reserva Syrah 2008
The Cono Sur winery in Chile has consistently produced very appealing wines at appealing prices. Their Pinot Noir is a good example. Currently available at the LCBO is Cono Sur Reserva Syrah 2008. It's deep purple in colour with an earthy blackcurrant with vanilla oak nose and a floral grace note. The palate offers expressive blackcurrant flavours riding on lively acidity to a firm finish. It's great value, $12.95 a bottle. Match it with hamburgers or spicy-sauced pastas. That's Cono Sur Reserva Syrah 2008 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($12.95, LCBO #221820)
