Stoney Ridge Simply White 2009
Stoney Ridge, one of Ontario's early boutique wineries, has a new wine on the market they call Simply White. The 2009 vintage of Simply White is 92% Chardonnay and 8% Sauvignon Blanc. Pale straw in colour with a green tint, it has a leafy, green plum and apple nose. On the palate it's crisply dry with green apple, green plum and grapefruit rind flavours; it's well balanced and lingering on the palate. A well-made wine. The price: $13.95. It's the kind of wine you can drink standing up at parties or with fish and seafood at the table. That's Stoney Ridge Simply White 2009 from Ontario. Citra Montepucliano d'Abruzzo 2010
If you think of Italy as a leg, the region of Abruzzo is at the back of the knee. They grow a grape called Montepulciano here, not to be confused with Tuscany's Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. And it's quaffable and laughably inexpensive. Citra Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2010 is deep ruby in colour with a woodsy, black cherry nose with a flight floral note. On the palate it's dry with a cherry pit flavour and lively acidity. It costs, wait for it, $6.95 a bottle. An ideal pizza wine. That's Citra Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2010 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($6.95, LCBO #446633)
