Peter Lehmann Clancy's 2000 (Australia)
A gutsy blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Purple plum colour; coconut and vanilla oak mingle with meaty, blackberry
notes; full on the palate with a rich, spicy blackberry and floral flavours.
Fruit-driven with good balancing acidity. ****
Food match: beef casserole, blue cheese
Ruffino Orvieto Classico 2002 (Umbria)
A local blend of Procanico with Grechetto and other indigenous grape varieties.
Pale straw colour; honey and almond bouquet; medium-bodied off-dry with
a ripe apple flavour given length by its lemony acidity. Good value. ***˝
Food match: glazed ham, pineapple chicken
Commandaria St. John (Cyprus)
$11.85 (Vintages stores, CSPC 101451)
A great dessert wine at a budget price. Deep brown with an olive green
rim. Intense honey and dried fig nose; initial sweetness glides into palate-cleansing
acidity. Reminds me of Verdelho from Madeira. Great length. Great value.
Food match: pecan pie, Stilton
