680News wine reviews – January 13–15, 2012

Beaulieu Vineyards BV Coastal Estates Chardonnay 2007
When I looked at the price of Beaulieu Vineyards BV Coastal Estates Chardonnay 2007 from California I thought at first it was a misprint. $10.95 for a wine of this quality – don't miss it. It's straw-coloured with a mature, high-toned nose of apple and toasty oak; on the palate it's dry, nutty and, toasty with apple and pineapple flavours. What's impressive for the price is its full-bodied, voluptuous mouth feel and concentration of flavour. A wine to match roast pork or a runny camembert. That's Beaulieu Vineyards BV Coastal Estates Chardonnay 2007 from California. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($10.95, LCBO #234435)

Hinterbrook Riesling 2010
Hinterbrook Estate is a new Niagara winery that's made an impressive debut with Riesling. Just released at Vintages outlets is Hinterbrook Riesling 2010. The wine is pale straw in colour with reflections of lime. It has a nose of petrol, minerals and grapefruit – all the characteristic aromas of a fine Riesling. It's off-dry with flavours of peach, honey and citrus, sustaining well on the palate. It costs $17.95 a bottle. The kind of wine that goes well with Thai dishes or other spicy cuisines. That's Hinterbrook Estate Riesling 2010 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($17.95, Vintages #270512)
