680News wine reviews – February 17–19, 2012

Santa Julia Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2010
From the folks who brought you Fuzion comes a good value Argentinian Cabernet Sauvignon. Santa Julia Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2010 is dense purple-black in colour with a nose of vanilla, sandalwood and blackcurrant; fruity and firm on the palate, it offers flavours of plum, black cherries and currants with spicy clove notes and a cinnamon finish. It costs $12.95 a bottle. Serve it withmeatloaf or grilled sausages. That's Santa Julia Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2010 from Argentina. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($12.95, LCBO #242370)

Umberto Fiore Barbaresco 2006
We don't often see Barbaresco on the LCBO's general list and certainly not at $16.95 a bottle. Made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes in Piemonte, Umbero Fiore Barbaresco 2006 is mature and ready for drinking. Tawny ruby in colour it has the classic Barbaresco nose of tar, rose petals and dried cherries. It's medium-bodied, dry and firmly structured with a tannic lift on the finish. That's Umberto Fiore Barbaresco 2006 from Italy. Serve it with tomato-based pasta dishes or fresh parmesan cheese. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($16.95, LCBO #254870)
