680News wine reviews – March 23–25, 2012

Montevina Pinot Grigio 2010
I'm not a big fan of Pinot Grigio. Too many of them are bland and inoffensive at best. But here's a Californian version that has real personality. Montevina Pinot Grigio 2010 is very pale in colour but really shines on the nose and on the palate. Its minerally peach pit bouquet opens in the mouth to rich white peach and lemon flavours with a touch of bitterness on the finish. It costs $14.95 a bottle at the LCBO. Try it with Spaghetti vongole or any seafood pasta dish. That's Montevina Pinot Grigio 2010 from California. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler. 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, LCBO #237750)

Saint Clair Vicar's Choice Sauvignon Blanc 2010
It takes some chutzpah to call a wine Vicar's Choice but that's what a New Zealand winery called their Sauvignon Blanc. The 2010 vintage of Saint Clair Sauvignon Blanc has that characteristic Marlborough nose of elderberries and nettles. Crisply dry, it offers tart flavours of gooseberry and grapefruit, perfect for seafood or goat's cheese dishes. It costs $15.95 at the LCBO. If the Vicar drinks it, that's got to be some endorsement. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($15.95, LCBO #237255)
