680News wine reviews – March 30–April 1, 2012

Hungaria Dunántúli Sauvignon Blanc
When I think of Sauvignon Blanc my mind doesn't immediately leap to Hungary but I was very surprised by the quality of a wine from that country – Hungaria Dunantuli Sauvignon Blanc is pale straw in colour with a nose of green plum, cut grass and grapefruit; it's medium-bodied, crisply dry, clean and fresh with a grapefruit and passion fruit flavour. And, the best part, it sells for $9.95 at the LCBO. Can't beat that price/quality ratio. Try it with grilled fish or goat's cheese salad. That's Hungaria Dunántúli Sauvignon Blanc, which as the name suggests, comes from Hungary. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($9.95, LCBO #269688)

Sauvion Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur lie 2010
A white wine that tends to get overlooked in the rush to Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc is Muscadet from the Loire Valley. There is no better wine for seafood and it's less costly than other more popular white varietals. Sauvion, spelled S-a-u-v-i-o-n, is the name of the company that makes a Muscadet 2010. Don't confuse it with the name of the grape that sounds the same. This wine is crisply dry with flavours of lemon and lemon blossom with a thread of minerality. It costs $12.95. That's Sauvion Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie 2010 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($12.95, LCBO #143016)
