680News wine reviews – April 13–15, 2012

Campolargo Vinha do Putto 2009
Portugal is currently producing some inexpensive reds that punch above their weight. At Vintages is a wine from the Barraida region called Campolarge Vinha do Putto 2009 – a blend of the local variety named Baga with Cabernet Sauvignon and another local variety, Castelao. It's dense purple-black in colour with a spicy black cherry nose and sweet fruit on the palate. It costs $13.95 at Vintages outlets. Match it with spicy Portuguese sausage or Manchego cheese. That's Campolargo Vinha do Putto 2009 from Portugal. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($13.95, Vintages #267971)

Marimar Estate La Masia Don Miguel Vineyard Chardonnay 2007
Marimar Torres, of the Spanish Torres family, has an estate in California's Green Valley where she produces exceptionally good Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Currently at Vintages is Marimar Estate La Masia Don Miguel Vineyard Chardonnay 2007. Deep straw colour, its bouquet is a rich, spicy mix of orange blossom, peach and creamy vanilla oak with a touch of forest floor. It's full-bodied with a lovely mouth feel, great length and a nutty finish. It costs $19.95 at Vintages. Serve it with salmon. That's Marimar Estate La Masia Don Miguel Vineyard Chardonnay 2007 from California at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($19.95, LCBO #270090)
