680News wine reviews – April 27–29, 2012

François Lurton Sauvignon de Bordeaux 2010
François Lurton Sauvignon de Bordeaux 2010 is unlike any white Bordeaux I have tasted – it's more like a cross between a Loire Valley Sancerre and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Pale straw, almost water white in colour, it has an upfront bouquet of gooseberry and grapefruit; these flavours expand on the palate to passion fruit and guava, ending with a crisp lemony finish. At $11.95 it's great value. Match it with seafood or a Caesar salad. That's François Lurton Sauvignon 2010 from Bordeaux. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($11.95, LCBO #250381)

Bouchard Père & Fils Mâcon Lugny St. Pierre 2010
If you're looking for a good introductory white Burgundy try Bouchard Père & Fils Mâcon Lugny St. Pierre 2010. This Chardonnay is pale straw in colour with a fresh nose of citrus fruit and apple complemented with a mineral note. The wine is medium-bodied and crisply dry. Just the job to match with grilled trout. You'll find it at the LCBO and if you pick it up this weekend it costs $13.95. From Monday it goes up a buck. That's Bouchard Père & Fils Mâcon Lugny St. Pierre 2010 from France. ($13.95 until April 29th, then $14.95, LCBO #51573)
