680News wine reviews – May 4–6, 2012

Monte del Frá Bardolino 2010
Bardolino, a wine grown on the slopes of Lake Garda in the Veneto region, is an ideal summer red best served lightly chilled. Monte del Frá Bardolino 2010, currently at Vintages stores at $12.95, is purple-ruby in colour with a spicy, peppery, cherry nose with a floral grace note – not unlike a Beaujolais. It's dry and firm and made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Sangiovese grapes. It has enough acidity to match fish and light meats. That's Monte del Frá Bardolino 2010 from Italy at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($12.95, Vintages #134544)

Southbrook Organic Red Connect 2011
Southbrook in Niagara-on-the-Lake is Canada's first certified biodynamic winery. Winemaker Ann Sperling makes a very tasty red called Organic Red Connect 2011 that sells for $14.95. It's a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Deep ruby colour with a complex nose of vanilla oak, cedar and blackcurrant with a floral note, it's medium-bodied, fruity and fresh with flavours of red and blackcurrants backed by vanilla oak and finishing with soft tannins. Try it with lamb burgers now that you're thinking of BBQ season. That's Southbrook Organic Red Connect 2011 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, LCBO #249565)
