E&J Gallo Barefoot Moscato
If you're stuck as to what to get Mom for Mother's Day, how about a wine that's low in alcohol and long on flavour. The Muscat grape is all the rage and the Italian version – Moscato – is the cotton candy of wines. E&J Gallo Barefoot Moscato is light straw in colour with an aromatic nose of orange, orange blossom and honey. It has grapey flavour with a light spritz, sweet but not cloying. In fact it fairly dances on the palate and at $10 it's not going to break the bank. You can serve it chilled as an aperitif or pour it over fresh berries. That's E&J Gallo Barefoot Moscato from California. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($10, LCBO #234351)

Nederburg The Winemaster's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
As you wheel the barbecue out of the garage it's time to think of inexpensive reds to complement those burgers, ribs and steaks. A captivating Cabernet Sauvignon at a very decent price is Nederburg The Winemaster's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 from South Africa. Ruby-coloured, it has a smoky, earthy, blackcurrant nose; the wine has a velvety mouth feel and a dry, herbal, blackberry flavour, medium-bodied with good length. It costs $10.95 a bottle. That's Nederburg The Winemaster's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 from South Africa. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($10.95, LCBO #111526)
