680News wine reviews – June 8–10, 2012

Arduini Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2009
Ripasso is a term the Italians use for a wine that has been fermented on the skins of grapes from a previous fermentation. This technique originated in the Veneto region to give extra flavour and heft to Valpolicella. Recently Vintages released Arduini Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2009. It's a medium-bodied wine with sweet spicy raisiny-plum fruit flavours that finishes dry with a dark chocolate note. An ideal wine for BBQs, available at Vintages outlets for $18.95. That's Arduini Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2009 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($18.95, Vintages #267898)

Cave Spring Riesling Dry 2010
Ontario's strongest suit is Riesling ranging from bone dry to honeyed sweet. At the dry end of the scale is Cave Spring Riesling Dry 2010, currently available at Vintages outlets. Pale straw in colour with a lime tint, this wine has a nose of grapefruit, green pineapple, minerals and orange blossom. It's light on the palate with a crisp lime flavour with just a touch of sweetness from stopping it becoming too tart. A wine for sea food. It costs a very reasonable $14.95. That's Cave Spring Riesling Dry 2010 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($14.95 Vintages #233635)
