680News wine reviews – July 27–29, 2012

Garofoli Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi 2010
Verdicchio is a white grape grown in Italy's Marche region which produces inexpensive dry white wines. Garofoli Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi 2010 currently at the LCBO is light straw in colour with a minerally, white peach bouquet; it's medium-bodied, crisply dry, with a white peach flavour and a lemony finish. It costs $12.75 a bottle and with its lively acidity it's a good match for grilled calamari or shrimp salad. That's Garofoli Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi 2010 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($12.75, LCBO #277293)

Laurent Gauthier Grand Cras Vieilles Vignes Morgon 2010
Summertime is a great season for Beaujolais because you can serve it chilled. Vintages has just released a named village Beaujolais at a great price. Laurent Gauthier Grand Cras Vieilles Vignes Morgon 2010 is deep purple in colour with that characteristic Beaujolais nose of peppery cherry. It's light and elegant on the palate and easy drinking. It costs $15.95 at Vintages outlets. Try it with cold chicken or charcuterie. That's Laurent Gauthier Grand Cras Vieilles Vignes Morgon 2010 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($15.95, Vintages #279059)
